Centenary Trophy Winner 2019/20

MATADOR

Centenary Trophy

History of the Centenary Trophy

To mark the Centenary of the Squadron, H.V. (Rusty) Foreman re-donated an old trophy in February 1978 for the Squadron's most consistent Yacht in VYC handicapping, on the Club Course for the season. It was first won in the season of 1977-78 by Les R. Williams with "Aquarius".

The Centenary Trophy Awarded by reviewing the number of races that a yacht competes in and balancing this with the minimum change in the PHS handicap during the season. The Trophy is then selected by the Sailing Committee.

Congratulations to Murray McCutcheon and his crew on Matador for winning the 2019/20 Centenary Trophy. Matador is a bull 9000 which races weekly, usually both Wednesday and Saturday.
Murray joined RMYS in 1986 and his first boat at the Squadron was a Holland 25 called Woodstock in which he won the Centenary Trophy in 1999, so he has been a consistent performer for a long time.

As tradition dictates, 'Matador' will lead the Sail Past on Opening day, this Saturday 5th December.
