Div 2 winner: Revenge (skipper Richard OBeirne and crew Bruce Lloyd, Geoff Roosen, , William Levecke)

Best start: Tigris, 2 seconds.

The last day of winter in Melbourne brought loads of sunshine and light southerly winds to Port Phillip. We had the chance to interview Tigris skipper and Commodore Ian Lodewyckx.

“It was a perfect day of sailing and, may I say, an ideal day for Tigris. You couldn’t ask for anything better, the crew performed immaculately, no errors, everything went perfectly, and the results showed with a perfect start and a perfect finish!”, reported Ian in the Olympic Bar.

When asked with the light winds were of any concern, the Tigris team reported back not at all. For a boat like Tigris, light winds are ideal where they might set the rest of the fleet back it’s a real strength for this 10-metre Flying Tiger.

Saturday Spring Series Race 1 – Saturday, 3 September 2022

The first of our spring series race occurred this past Saturday, where How Bizarre won PHS and AMS. Spinnakers were flying and the perfect sunny day of 14 degrees made sailing a breeze in the southerly winds.

How Bizarre reported that it was a race for big boats this week with winds forecast 8-10 knots though there were 19 knots at some stage on the water. Three of the big boats in the race made it over the line, and the smaller boats came through later.

We had the opportunity to interview, Seventeen, one of those smaller boats that came past the line a little later on. Esteban Franco, a training member was on the boat that day with our training manager, Grant Seamer.

“It was a fun sail with Esteban and my partner Amanda as crew. Amanda and I are used to sailing on Lake Burley Griffith in Canberra so Port Phillip Bay is a totally different experience. The course was chosen well for today’s conditions so well done to the RO and team of volunteers in the tower,” reports Grant.

Thank you to our volunteers in the tower!
