 Spring series race 2 – Saturday, 9 September 2022

AMS Winner Arcadia (Duncan Beiers, Peter PJ Davison, Esteban Franco, Ian Lyall, Sean Supanz, Alan Watkins)

Winds for our 2nd spring series race were south westerly with 10-15 knots of wind. A partly cloudy and rainy morning on Port Phillip. With a top of 17 degrees, though, reports from our sailors say the wind was making it feel much less than that.

After the race, Peter “PJ” Davison was interviewed by our Boating Administrator, Ann Rogers.

“We were short on the crew but picked up Esteban Franco, a training member. We wouldn’t have done nearly as well if we didn’t have Esteban on board” reports skipper, PJ. “Everyone was working pretty hard, and the wind was all over the place. It was down to 11 knots and then up to 23 knots.

These gusts of wind and a bit of forecasting also helped Arcadia bring home a win, reports PJ. “We were coming down the line, and the wind was going 16, 15, 14, 13” the skipper was tossing up whether or not to change their number 4 headsail. “Duncan [Beiers] said let’s have a look what’s going on at Fawkner Beacon … it was 17 knots, so we left it alone, and sure enough, it filled in, and so we were glad we didn’t change sails,”

Sticking with the number 4 headsail and using the resources at their fingertips helped Arcadia bring home a win this weekend. Congratulations to them!
