Hi Everyone,

Being your Officer of the Day  (OOTD) was great last Saturday, 8 October. For those of you who don’t know me (yet), I’m Nadine Tabak, a member of your general committee. Officer of the day is an appointed role given to General Committee Members. It’s not the same as acting as a race officer but is more like acting as a liaison for any members (New, Potential or Otherwhys) to help race days run smoothly.

One great part of being an officer of the day is getting to help connect people to boats. While acting as OOTD, I got to help assist two newer members in finding their boats and with general direction. I also got to speak with a gentleman who’s been a member for over 70 years!

After the race started, things started to slow down, but there were still plenty of visitors to greet and stuff happening around the club, including a touch of cleaning and even providing a tour. I also watched the race start through the binoculars and checked out a cool pirate ship sailing around the bay.

Finally, the race wrapped up, and the bar began to fill with plenty of the usual racing crowd coming in to check out the results. A big thank you to RYCV volunteers for managing the results on our behalf. Ann did her magic before I had the honour of making announcements. It was great to be a part of our weekly races in a different context and to hand out all the glassware to everyone for their incredible hard work! Congrats to all those who raced this week and especially those who won!

Although I look forward to my next shift as Officer of the day (OOTD), it won’t be me again for another couple of months. In the meantime, keep an eye out for your Officer of the day next week, Cath Mahoney, and make sure to say hi!
