No RO’s volunteered so Grant Seamer our Training Manager put up his hand and volunteered to fill the spot. Right behind him were our Comms guru Lily Robbins and our new Instructor Bunny and Grant’s partner Amanda Rogerson. The fabulous four made their way to the Tower, the first time for some and organised the race. The wind had been slow so a quick course was selected and the Moonlit flit was abandoned. About half an hour into the race the wind picked up to 19 knots and the race was quickly over. We even got an apology from Grant – but who knows what the weather has in store so thank you Grant, Amanda and the office team for putting up their hands to help!

Interviewed Ian Lodewyckx from Tigris who won 1^st place in PHS and 1^st Place in ORC

Ann Rogers: Hi Ian, congratulations on winning PHS and ORC categories, were you on board and helming?

Commodore Ian Lodewyckx: No I never helm my boat, because I have better people to helm, I recognise that where skills are, then you let those people with those skills do the job. So we had a good start, we were leading at the first mark (which was a bit crowded at the turn) and then we were leading at the second mark and then we thought we were going to be leading all the way through but Arcadia stayed down the bottom of the course and got more wind and got in front of us so that was very clever, but it’s also the luck of the game, luck of sailing – but fortunately they weren’t too far ahead of us and so the result was – 1^st to Tigris in PHS and 1^st also in ORC and Arcadia got a 2^nd. A great day, very pleasant, good course and lovely weather!!!
