Wednesday, Midweek Mariners Series III Race 6

Div 1 Winner Mrs Overnewton (Ann Elmslie, Gene Blackley, Geoffrey Chambers, Les Norton, Miro Gjergja, Peter Carr)

Mira of the Mrs Overnewton crew was interviewed by Ann Rogers after the race. Mira’s background is dinghy sailing.

“We adopted the dinghy sailing methods: tacking, gybing and using the wind shifts to get the best advantage from the conditions. It was very good teamwork”

Mira was helmsman on Mrs O this week and really enjoyed it. Great work to Mrs O’s crew!

Spring Series, Race 4

1st AMS & ORC How Bizarre (Glenn Bailey, David Guest, Peter Haug, Paul Horsey, Damian Kininmonth, Scott Robinson)

1st PHS Mrs Overnewton (Paul Auckett, Doug Charters, Ann Elmslie, Phil Grossi, Nadine Huels, Sonja Schlusche, Jason Senior)

Saturday’s race was windy, with 33 knots recorded out in the marina it was the race officers’ call to go ahead with the race, and the yachts went out to brave the rainy weather. We caught up with Scott Robinson, who came in first in AMS & ORC.

“We had to play it pretty safe because there was plenty of wind,” Scott said. “we made a break in that last run down the bottom mark, we had the asymmetrical spinnaker up, and the wind blew in, and we just got it down in time,” said the crew.

“We were watching the boats in front, Arcadia and The Jackal, and we could see the wind change, and we just had enough time to get our assy down before it smashed us. We just got it in, and then BANG, it hit. If we’d still had it up, we’d still be out there trying to get it down,” reports Scott in the members’ bar on Saturday.

Lucky that they had that spinnaker in quickly!
