1923
History:

At the annual Smoke Night, August 25 1923, it was announced that, Mrs Charlotte E Cheel had presented a trophy and Silk Club Burgee for annual competition between club yachts, in memory of her late husband, popular club member Amos. J. (Jimmy) Cheel.

“To encourage the St Kilda Yacht Club in the sport of yachting in its waters” Mr W.S. Robb had arranged the Deed of Gift and presented a trophy for the first winner.

For many years the ‘Cheel Cup’ was for the first race of the season, when A,A -I and B classes combined to make a large entry. It was first won November 24, 1923 by Stan Gamble with Fairlie II.

Over the years it was to have many changes, and also lay idle. Revived season 1978-1979, the Cheel Cup became the 1st division aggregate trophy, provided for by race entry fees and first won by H. Kuhn with Jedaka.

Divisional aggregate is set in the racing program for the season by the Sailing Committee. The award is for the best 9 results out of 12 races according to the V.Y.C. system of handicapping.
