An ambulance was required, and while the crew member is now well and everything went ok, it prompts a reminder regarding the most effective method of communication with the ambulance service.

It is difficult and at times dangerous to the injured person to be relaying information through the office or someone on shore. It is always desirable for someone with the ill or injured person to be talking with medical assistance.

If you are in a situation on water that requires medical assistance and/or an ambulance to meet your boat, if possible call “000” from the boat or if out of phone range use the radio with a Pan Pan or a Mayday call.

We encourage you to have a copy of the emergency contact list on your boat. PDF versions and the digital version of the website can be found below. We have a limited number of printed copies available for you at reception.
