Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022

Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron mourns the loss of our Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her devotion to service was admired and respected by all. She was truly a remarkable person. May she Rest In Peace. God save the King.

The Club will be observing the national day of mourning and will be closed Thursday, 22 September 2022.

Headsail Trim - Wednesday, 14 September 2022 after racing announcements

Experienced high performance sailing coach, Philippe Charret will be running a seminar on headsail trim.
|
Join us in the committee room after Wednesday's racing announcements to upskill before the summer season.
|
Seminar cost is $20/person retroactively charged to members' accounts following the session.

Skippers Briefing - Saturday, 17 September 2022 1030 hrs
|
|
|
Jason McCutcheon, our Club Captain, invites skippers and crew to the Olympic Bar for the skippers' briefing.
|
The briefing will notify skippers and crew about what is happening in the upcoming summer season and ideas from the sailing committee. We will be seeking input from attending members.

Opening Day - Saturday, 1 October 2022
|
|
|
Opening Day is the traditional opening of the sailing season. It is marked with a Sail Past where boats "dress up" and salute the commodore.
|

The Titanics are unsinkable and unstoppable. You'll find them for the rest of the year on the 1st Friday of every month. They'll be playing the hits you love to hear in the Olympic Bar,

Terry Hill passed away on 2nd September. Terry was an RMYS member for more than 16 years and had over 15 years of experience as an RMYS Race Officer conducting races on the water and in the tower covering many Club, State, National and International events.
|
Terry introduced Best Start of the Day for the RMYS Wednesday racing, which later spurred on other volunteer prizes donated by members, such as the summer series "Goat of the Day", sponsored by Mountain Goat Brewery.
|
The funeral service for Mr Terence Gordon Hill will be held at Allison Monkhouse Funerals, 124 Carpenter Street, Brighton, on Wednesday, 14th September 2022, commencing at 11:00 am. It can be watched with the link below.

Squadron Award Winners Announced
|
|
|
The Squadron Awards are given to nominated members of the club for various achievements that are also being recognized at the state and national level through Australian Sailing.
|
This past Friday, 9 September the state award winners were announced. Those winners will go on to be finalists at the national levels.
|
We look forward to presenting the Squadron Awards at Opening Day on Saturday, 1 October 2022.
|

Olympic Bar Open Friday, 23 September 2022
|
|
|
The Olympic Bar will be open from 1200 hrs to 2100 hrs on Friday, 23 September 2022.
|
Please note Listen Out festival road closures below on that day. Listen Out Festival will be using the Harbour Room and the Wet Bar area. Olympic Bar will be open to members as usual.

Trivia Night: a KISS success!
|

|
The Squadron wants to thank Damo (Ops Manager), Todd and his daughter Charlie for this incredible night. Charlie dutifully calculated the score. Crusaders won the night and Buck won the Bundy toss!

Sails in change room lobby
|
|
|
There are a lot of unidentified sails in the change room lobby at present.
|
Sails are only to be placed here if they are due to be picked up (or dropped off) by Sailmakers.
|
All sails should be identifiable, with the vessel name or sail number written on a tag.
|
If these unidentified sails are not removed by the weekend, they will be disposed of.
|

Club Member of the Year award nominations close 21 September
|

|
Each year we identify a member who has made a significant contribution to RMYS to be awarded the J W Crosbie Trophy for Club Member of the Year, which will be presented at Opening Day on Saturday, 1 October.
|
