Recently arrived are Satya 2, a cutter-rigged 32-foot steel yacht, and her proud new owner, Elwood local Paul Walden.

RMYS glassware is now available for purchase!

Members can now purchase our wine glasses and tumblers with the RMYS logo for 1st, 2nd or 3rd placings.

The cost is $10 per item, and they are available for collection at the office.

If you require more than 6, there will be a three week wait as we have limited storage.

Club Member of the Year Twilight Race - Wednesday, 25 January 2023 1800 hrs start

Club member Ross Flood Twilight Race
This is the Club Member of the Year Twilight Race. The start time is 1800 hrs. Pursuit start, Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker Cat 6.

Awards will be presented by one of our Club Members of the Year, Ross Flood.

Volunteers needed: 2 x Tower crew.

Tomorrow's weather:
The forecast for tomorrow is partly cloudy, with a top of 29 degrees and a chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening. Light winds becoming northwest to southwesterly 8 to 11 knots in the early afternoon, then tending south to southwesterly 8 – 13 knots in the late afternoon.

Dinner served from 1830 hrs:
• Grilled pork and fennel sausage, caponata, ciabatta $26

• Fish and Chips: Beer battered whiting with chips and tartare $24

• Lemon and herb roasted half chicken with pita, garlic yoghurt and green salad $26

Takeaways for Festival of Sails - Thursday, 26 January 2023 0730 hrs bar open

F&D Festival of Sails Takeaways
Royal Geelong Yacht Club hosts the Festival of Sails, which begins this Thursday, 26 January, with the passage race to Geelong.

Before the race begins, the bar will be open from 0730 hrs for ice, coffee, and takeaway drinks. Sandwiches are available to take away, fresh or toasted.

Menu:
• Chicken Baguette with chipotle mayo and cos lettuce $9

• Beef baguette with lettuce and dijon aioli $9

• Ham cheese tomato toastie $7.50

• Semi dried tomato toastie on sourdough $7.50

Agar Wynne Trophy - Monday, 30 January 2023 1000 hrs start, 1600 hrs bar open

For our RMYS racers returning from Geelong, Monday’s weather for the Agar Wynne is predicted to be a perfect 22 degrees, cloudy, with southerly winds of 11 – 16 knots.

Agar Wynne Trophy is a part of the Long Distance Series, Race 3, Geelong Return Passage, Cat 5. Start time is 1030 hrs

The bar will be open from 1600 hrs especially for those returning from Geelong. Members are encouraged to come by the bar to welcome racers from 1600 hrs to 2000 hrs on Monday, 30 January.

After seven years of service, on Wednesday, 1 February, after sailing, the club invites all members to join us for a farewell to our General Manager, Matt Solly.

Menu:
• Steak pie with chips and salad $26
• Chicken parm with chips and salad $26
• Seafood chowder $26
• Vegetarian nasi goreng $22

Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy & Lunch - Sunday, 5 February 2023 at 1100 hrs.

The Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy for lady skippers will be held on Sunday, 5 February 2023, at 1100 hours.

Lady skippers of all levels and from all clubs are encouraged to enter.

Race starts at 1100 hrs with lunch to follow.

Volunteers needed: Race Officer, 2 x Tower crew

The lunch menu will include the regular bar menu plus the following:

Red Pants Funday - Sunday, 12 February 2023 1000 hrs - 1700 hrs

Put on your red pants and join in this fun February sailing day. Yachts and crafts of all types are included. Visitors and non-sailors are welcome to join in the fun.

To be run in conjunction with the Wigs and Gowns Squadron fun sail, trophies will be awarded. Let us know if you need a spot on a yacht. Refreshments can be purchased from RMYS before sailing.

On water activities will be followed by lunch and drinks in the RMYS Harbour room. Come for a sail or just come for lunch.

Mainsail trim seminar - Friday, 3 & 10 February 2023 1900 hrs

This Friday, the asymmetrical spinnaker trim will be led by Philippe. This will be a 2-hour session. This is a combined session, covering all of the asymmetrical spinnaker trim for only $20 and will be charged after attendance to members' accounts.

Happy hour: 1700 - 1900 hrs.
Dinner from: 1800 hrs (menu to come)
Members draw at 1900 hrs.

The seminar will begin immediately after the draw.

Coastal Navigation - Saturday, 18 & Sunday, 19 February 2023

Coastal Navigation
An entry level navigation course designed to give you a firm foundation in practical navigation and seamanship. The course covers traditional skills such as buoyage, tides and passage planning as well as the latest in GPS and electronic systems.

VHF & HF Radio Course - Monday, 13 & 27 February 2023

VHF Radio
This course will cover all facets of the Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP). This certificate is required to operate a marine VHF (Very High Frequency) or HF (High Frequency) set as used on boats, both power and sail.

The course runs over two nights (6:30pm - 9:30pm). The first night will cover the VHF element, and the second night is covering the HF followed by a 50-question exam.

Recreational Boating 🚤

Wyndham Harbour Cruise - Saturday, 25 (to Sunday 26)* February 2023

Wyndham Harbour
The recreational boating group will be cruising to Wyndham Harbour. Pat Milwright will be organising berths for those keen to stay overnight.

Departure is tentatively set to noon but will be weather dependent on arriving in Wyndham for either lunch or dinner.
