Entering and Exiting your Berth, and Navigation in the Marina
Recently there has been a number of near collisions involving vessels entering and exiting their berths, in particular when vessels are entering the fairway.
All vessels must obey the rules to prevent such incidents. Please remember:
- Maximum 4 knots
- No overtaking in the Fairway
- Vessels already in the Fairway have Right of Way over vessels entering the Fairway – regardless of whether the vessel in the Fairway is approaching from your Port side
- Vessels exiting the Marina have Right of Way over vessels entering the Marina. Many vessels must leave or enter the fairway by navigating close to the Western edge of the Attenuator. If you are entering the Marina, wait until there are no vessels about to leave (i.e. any vessels between E Arm and the Attenuator).
- Keep to Starboard where practicable, but remember that the breakwater rocks do extend into the fairway
When leaving your berth and about to head into the fairway, please reduce speed and check in BOTH DIRECTIONS for any vessels already in the Fairway.
Your cooperation in avoiding collisions is appreciated (and expected!)
