Road Closures (Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix)

The Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 will be staged from 12-15 March 2020.

Motorsport-related activities will take place from Wednesday 11 March at 7:00am until approximately 7:30pm on Sunday 15 March.

Road Closures

Access to Albert park will be restricted during the Grand Prix Race Period (between 12:01am on Tuesday 10 March until 11:59pm on Monday 16 March 2020. Motorists, park tenants and park users should note that there will be periods of restricted access on certain days before and after the Grand Prix Race Period. The majority of Albert Park Reserve will remain open to the general public at all other times.

Access to Lakeside Drive between Albert Road and Ross Gregory Drive and the road linking Lakeside and Queens Road (south of Greenfields) are closed with access restricted to AGPC and Parks Victoria approved users only.

Aughtie Drive and other roads within the park will be most affected outside of the Race Period as detailed below:

  • Monday 10 February 2020 to Thursday 5 March 2020

Lakeside Drive closed weekdays between 9:30am – 3:30pm.

  • Friday 14 February 2020 to Monday 2 March 2020

Lakeside Drive closed weekends between 7:00pm Friday to 7:00am Monday. All other roads will remain open, except for short term temporary closures due to construction work. Minor delays expected.

  • Thursday 27 February 2020 to Thursday 19 March 2020

No entry to Roy Street from Queens Road during this time. Access available via St Kilda Road. Exit from Roy Street is only via Queens Lane from 12 March until 15 March.

  • Tuesday 3 March 2020 to Wednesday 4 March 2020

Queens Road temporary closure between 10:00pm-6:00am.

  • Friday 6 March 2020 (9:30am) to Monday 9 March 2020 (7:00am)

Lakeside Drive will be closed to all general public traffic.

All other roads will remain open, except for short term temporary closures due to construction work and the Grand Prix Race Period. Minor delays expected.

  • Monday 9 March 2020 to Tuesday 10 March 2020

All roads closed from 7:00am Monday to 12:01 am Tuesday.

  • Tuesday 10 March 2020 12:01am to Monday 16 March 2020 11:59pm

Grand Prix Race Period.

Albert Park and all roads within Albert Park closed to the public.

  • Monday 16 March 2020 to Thursday 19 March 2020

All roads closed 11:59pm Monday to 3:30pm Thursday.

This closure will only be implemented if required. AGPC will endeavour to have all roads (except Lakeside Drive) open by Monday 16 March 2020 at 11:59pm.

  • Tuesday 18 March 2020 to Wednesday 19 March 2020

Queens Road temporary closure between 11:05am-3:00pm.

  • Friday 20 March 2020 to Friday 27 March 2020

Lakeside Drive closed weekdays between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

  • Friday 20 March 2020 to Friday 27 March 2020

Lakeside Drive closed weekends between 7:00pm Friday to 7:00am Monday. All other roads will remain open, except for short term temporary closures due to construction work. Minor delays expected.

TEMPORARY CLOSURES
  • Monday 23 March 2020

Overpass 7 across Ross Gregory Drive is scheduled to be dismantled.

Traffic controllers will be present at either end of the closure on Albert Road Drive and at Turn 13, 14 and at the U-turn at Lakeside Drive/Village Green to advise motorists and cyclists on access during all times of the traffic treatment operation.

  • Tuesday 24 March 2020
