How fitting that the first big event at the Squadron after over 12 months of limited gatherings was Presentation Night.
Because we’d missed last year, members and partners joined with dignitaries from kindred clubs and Sailing Australia celebrate sailing and recognise those who had topped the racing results for both 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
The Harbour room was at maximum capacity of 170, a sell out event and everyone was ‘frocked up’.
Sometimes it’s a challenge to recognise crew mates when wearing other than wet gear and sunnies – but we all managed.
Volunteers had polished the silverware, some dating from pre 1900; sailing committee and Boating Co-ordinator had made the list and checked it twice just like Santa.
After the formal welcome by Commodore Greg Marino, Club Captain Monica Jones presented the awards with announcements made by former Club Captain Michael Culhane.
Youth sailing team awards were first, with the Lord Stonehaven Cup and Lady Stonehaven Cup wins being acknowledged by the senior members.
Truly an epic evening, with formal proceedings being completed by a toast to Sailing and both to and from kindred clubs.
Many thanks to all involved. Sailing Committee, RMYS Office support and food & desire management and staff who allowed some to remain far too late!!
