The wind was light on Saturday as the Squadron headed out for Saturday racing. Unfortunately for all of us, there were no winners in the ORC division. Expired ORC certificates disqualified several boats, and thus no prizes could be given in that direction. It’s a real shame! Let’s not let this happen again this week; get your ORC certificates in order and get on the water.

That aside, we’re very proud of Sunshine (1st in PHS) and Arcadia (1st in AMS).

Jim Oosterweigel, the skipper of Sunshine, said the race was no walk in the park. “Anyone lucky enough to win a race, it was because nothing mucked up,” said the Sunshine skipper. The crew was consistent, reported Jim.

Report from winning AMS boat, Arcadia’s Peter “PJ” Davidson:

“There was a bias in the start line to the pin end, which we ditched, so we avoided a lot of bun fights up at the boat end, but there were a few boats which were there on time, and we were 10 seconds late, so as the boats put dirty air on us, so we got a bit strangled, and the boat didn’t go as fast as it should,” said PJ, Skipper of Arcadia

Arcadia’s win is very impressive with a cosy crew of 10 on board and a faulty start. Arcadia whizzed past Kookaburra on their downwind leg. No Man’s Land did well; however, many of the fleet went the wrong way. Luckily, the wind shifted in Arcadia’s favour, and they’d caught up with everyone except No Man’s Land, but on the 2nd leg, they were able to “run them down”, said PJ, satisfied by this.
