RMYS Opening Day – Saturday 5th October

Season Opening Day and Sail Past

The Summer season will open on Saturday 5th October.

Traditionally we start the Opening Day lunch formalities with an Acknowledgement of Country, paying respect to the Traditional Owners and the ongoing custodians of the land on which our clubhouse stands. We will do so again this year, but will extend that respect to asking the Boon Wurrung, the traditional people and custodians of this coastline, to conduct a smoking ceremony at the Squadron through one of their Elders.

After the smoking ceremony those who have booked lunch will proceed to the harbour room for a 2 course lunch (view menu), followed by the presentation to the 2019 Club Member of the Year and unfurling of the burgee to officially declare the season open.

Afterwards the traditional sail past will commence on water followed by live music and drinks in the Olympic Bar throughout the evening.

The sail past is lead by the Centenary Cup winner, Sunshine skippered by Jim Oosterweghel  followed by the junior fleet, RMSTA, then Division 1, Division 2, Division 3,  finally other yachts and motor boats.

Colin will provide more information directly to boat owners about the order of the Sail Past and Matt will provide details of the relevant protocols later too.

We encourage as many boats as possible to get out on the water to enjoy the celebration!

Live entertainment will begin at 4:30pm with Glen Wee in the Olympic Bar.
