Nomination for Honorary Life Membership – Peter Davison

Nomination for Honorary Life Membership - Peter Davison

I am very pleased to be able to announce that Peter Davison (Arcadia) has been nominated for Honorary Life Membership of the Squadron. He was proposed by past commodore Russell Nathan and seconded by past commodore Harry Leggett and the proposal was unanimously endorsed by the General Committee. Such a nomination would normally be announced at the AGM and a vote taken on the nomination at that meeting but, with the electronic voting and AGM this year, the nomination needs to be announced early so the motion can be voted on prior to the AGM (a 90% majority vote of the members at a general meeting is required under our constitution). I urge you all to support the motion.

Peter has been an exemplary member of the Squadron for 46 years. He has successfully campaigned yachts since that time, and since 2004 has represented the Squadron in many blue water races. During his time as a member of the Squadron Peter has demonstrated a commitment above and beyond to placing the Squadron at the forefront of sailing and yachting administration in general.

Peter jointed RMYS on 11 June, 1973 after being proposed by Frank Konkoly. Peter then sailed on Endeavour 24 “Corcovado” and skippered her to the State/Australian Sailing Titles in 1986.  Since that time, Peter has consistently campaigned the following yachts: Evasion, Addiction and Arcadia. He has been a highly successful yachtsman and his many sailing achievements are listed at the end of the article.

Peter has been a major contributor to the Squadron over many years, and his personal contribution and professional knowledge has been of immeasurable benefit to the Squadron He was:

  • Treasurer – 1984 to 1994
  • Rear Commodore – 1994 to 1995
  • Vice Commodore – 1995 to 1997
  • a long term member of the Finance sub-committee, on which he still serves.
