Why train at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron?
Location: The Squadron has a sheltered harbour and marina at its disposal offering unparallelled and safe access to Port Phillip. Dinghies are launched via a sheltered sandy beach and our training keelboats are housed within the RMYS marina. The Squadron is easily accessed via public transport (tram), car or bike.
Facilities: Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron offers a friendly club based environment, situated on one of the most popular beaches in Victoria, with a sheltered harbour and marina. Our Clubhouse facilities offer one of the best views on the bay and provide a place for our club members & visitors to relax.
Experience: The Academy is an accredited ‘Discover Sailing Centre’ and has started the sailing careers of thousands of Victorians. The Academy is managed on a full-time basis by professional sailing and boating instructors and conducts on-water and shore-based courses throughout the year.
Passion: Our training instructors (and club members) are passionate about sailing. Frankly – we love it! Our biggest reward is seeing visitors and students having fun while being introduced to sailing. Come and try sailing with us and see if you agree.

Most sports and recreational activities present their participants with a pathway of incremental skills to provide progression and ongoing challenge. Think of the coloured belts in karate or the grades in a musical instrument. The pathway concept has been extensively developed and deployed in sports around the world, as the structure of player/athlete development and retention.
Yachting Australia has had some elements of a pathway underpinning some of its activities for many years. Its learn to sail courses have been based on a stepped level of courses, and its Development and High Performance Program’s success have been guided by a clear pathway.
