MID-WEEK MARINERS
PERPETUAL TROPHY
DONATED BY ERIC WAREING 1978
History:

As a result of the success of a Mid-Week racing Series held Season 1977-1978, when the winning yacht of each heat was presented with the spent cartridge from the starter’s gun. Club member Eric Wareing donated this trophy in February, 1978, for a 30 week Aggregate, 20 to count, Pursuit Start Mid-Week Winter Afternoon Series without spinnakers. At a Squadron dinner after each heat trophies for place getters were awarded.

It was first won in 1979, by W. Chalmers skippering “Southern Comfort”. During winter 1992, fleets of 20 – 25 yachts competed for this series. In time the handicaps agreed upon were to the V.Y.C. system.

1986, when won outright by Gerry Ward skippering Tonto, brought about the introduction of three series of ten events (seven to count). Contested for concurrently with the main event, with various trophies donated annually by sponsors on the completion of each of the three series.

The winner of the Mid-Week Mariners’ Perpetual Trophy is not eligible to receive the Justine Trophy.
