Discover Sailing Day 2019

Sunday 10 November 2019

Discover Sailing Day at RMYS, we will build on the format used last year and create an entertaining and interesting event which attracts visitors to RMYS.  Taking people for a sail is a big part of the day however there will be lots more to involve families, potential junior sailors and social members.  We want to welcome people who simply would like to walk through the building and appreciate its history and charm.  This is also a significant community activity with a focus on engaging our neighbours.  I encourage all members to embrace this great community event which is a fantastic opportunity to promote your yacht club.

  Activities to be available

Off water

Music
Entertainment for Children
Members bar open

On water

Keelboat sailing
OTB sailing
RIB rides
Motorboat trips

Our objectives are:

to engage non-members with RMYS

to enthuse people to become involved in sailing

to promote Royal Melbourne Sail Training Academy

To make all of this happen we need lots of volunteers.

Activities commence at 1000 and conclude 1600 with a thank you volunteer BBQ.

Your working bee levy will be credited by assisting in Discover Sailing Day

Tasks requiring volunteers are:

ON WATERif you are able to assist, please contact Colin
racing@rmys.com.au

Boat owners/skippers
Make boats available, includes yachts and motorboats

Boat Crew – assist owners/skippers

RIB drivers – take visitors out on club RIBS

Boat Coordinators – stay on marina, allocate visitors to boats and
hand out showbags.
OFF WATERif you are able to assist, please contact Jan
members@rmys.com.au

Walkers to marina – walk visitors out to the marina and back, this is a good opportunity to talk to people on the way out and find out their interests and then on the way back how they enjoyed the experience and assess their membership potential.

Tour guides – show visitors around RMYS and explain some of it’s
wonderful history

Registration table – process visitors

Welcoming hosts – mainly based at gates and entrances and guide
visitors to the registration area

All Day BBQ chefs – keep the sausages going all day.

“DJ” or at least a play list – can anyone assist with a playlist on a USB stick or maybe even a DJ with equipment.

Many volunteers are required to do each task properly and allow people to take breaks.  It would be great if you are available all day however that is often difficult so let us know when you can assist.

Amy will commence digital marketing this week, please promote this to your friends and contacts.  Last year we had around 250 visitors and could easily have handled many more so the promotion will be broader and more intense.

Four weeks to go this Sunday.
