HRH Prince Philip

RMYS acknowledges the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Philip was an avid sailor and attended many clubs around the bay including our own. As seen by his signature in the historical Royal St Kilda Yacht Club sign-in book, the Prince visited our club on the 1st of March 1954.
He was welcomed by Commodore Barney Snider.

Philip served in the Royal Navy and fought in World War II with the Mediterranean and Pacific fleets. The Duke of Edinburgh began sailing at Gordonstoun School in Scotland. He frequently sailed competitively in the Dragon Class keelboat Bluebottle. He was an enduringly enthusiastic yachtsman and regularly cruised a 63ft Camper and Nicholson named Bloodhound.
He later served as Admiral of the Royal Southern Yacht Club and Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes until his death on Friday 9th April.

The annual RMYS Presentation Night is fast approaching.

Starting at 6:30pm, the night will be a great opportunity to celebrate our members and our club. The night will feature a wide variety of trophy presentations and a range of esteemed guests.
On top of everything, there will be a delicious dinner service supplied by food&desire.

More details of the night will come as we get closer to the 22nd of May.

Pathway Membership

Many questions have been asked by members about the Pathway Membership which was announced at the member information night on 23 February. The PowerPoint presentation from that meeting is in the members portal on the website.

A more detailed explanation of the Pathway Membership category has been added to the Member's Portal which hopefully answers your questions.

Millennial Mixer 2021

Header_millenial_Mixer2
A new initiative is coming to RMYS and we're throwing a party to celebrate.

The yet to be named committee targeted for members under 35 is due for launch on May 7th. To really get this thing started we are having a party in the Olympic Bar from 6:30pm till late with decent music, a spiked slushy machine and avocado on toast. This should be a great opportunity to bring along your non member friends who have been wanting to check out the venue and for you to get to know some of the other "younger" members.

Okay Boomers, we hear you too. If you're young at heart rather than on paper you can still come along and enjoy the fun!

RMYS Social Golf Day

Picture1
Members and their friends are welcome to come and play in the RMYS Golf Day at Albert Park. This is an annual event and has been going for about 10 years.
You don’t have to be a gun player as we play Ambrose rules where four people in a team all hit and you choose the best ball for each shot.
Names are drawn out of a hat, it’s very social and there’s a bbq and presentation at the end.

To attend, contact Sabina at sabinakrosser@hotmail.com (preferred) or call 0408 785 795.

Message from the Venue Manager

Hello Everybody,
What a cold stormy weekend! I was almost blown off my feet going to the tram. It was too windy even for the always tough sailors who relaxed in the Olympic Bar on Saturday instead of going out on the water. It was lovely to have you all in the bar and thanks for letting us plug the icecream cart in the Members bar for the Bah Mitzvah.

There’s not too much going on this week but I do encourage everybody to join us for the Midweek Mariners Lunch.
