We wish you the very best of times at RMYS and look forward to seeing you on the water and at our social events.
Leisurely was bought from Ian Thomas of Hobson’s Bay Yacht Club in September of this year. Ian acquired Leisurely almost 20 years ago from Sydney and re-homed’ her to the Bay. After doing quite a bit of work to her, including a new engine, Ian had many years of sailing both in club races and cruising around Port Phillip.
Leisurely was built by Griffin boat builders in Sydney in 1952. She is made predominantly from oregon with hardwood ribs, teak gunnel rails and oregon spars. Her most interesting feature below decks is that she has the original steel and enamel ice box - which is a big social step up from an esky and deserves to be restored.
Along with Leisurely came a complete set of canvas sails in reasonable condition – apart from the corroded brass sail slugs attached to the sail with aged leather ties. The Main and Mizzen sails had the sail number ‘CYC65’. We can only surmise that this was her original sail number in the Cruising Yacht Club back in the 1950s. If anyone has any ideas on where to find out more information about the history of Leisurely it would be greatly appreciated.
