Scott Allbutt, Peter Yoon, Ross Flood, Alistair Hart, David Croke and Graham Dicker from RMYS were all put through their paces during the course. These members were sponsored by RMYS to attend this course to upgrade their skills, demonstrating the Squadron's ongoing efforts to increase the levels of onwater safety and skill in race management.
See below for more information.
Onwater drills included close quarter boat handling, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, man overboard retrieval, tug towing, mark laying, kedging using the anchor and more. During the theory part of the course, race operations, safe operation of support craft and onwater risk management were also covered.
The Safety Boat Operators Course is the second level qualification in the Yachting Australia Powerboat Scheme and recommended for any personnel undertaking onwater safety boat duties in a yacht club or regatta environment. If you’re a volunteer, yacht crew or boat owner needing a boat licence or improving your hands-on boating training, the Yachting Australia Powerboat Handlers course may be for you.
The next Powerboat Course at RMYS is planned for the weekend of Sept 12 to 14, 2014 with spaces still available. Course information and a booking form can be found here. Please contact Leigh Brennan-Smith: firstname.lastname@example.org or mobile 0412 196 301 if you would like more information.
