We are sad to report that a boat has sunk in the RMYS marina. ‘Layla May’, belonging to our previous yard manager Michael Neumann, sank overnight on Thursday 7 May. She is located in the middle of G row. The cause is yet to be determined, but there are no suspicious circumstances.
Diesel fuel has leaked from the vessel. However, the yard staff used spill booms as soon as they became aware of the sinking early on Thursday morning and have regularly monitored the site since the incident. EPA and Club Marine have been in attendance at the site, and the Oil Response Company of Australia (ORCA) has also assisted with the cleanup. The boat has been re-floated and will be removed by barge on Friday 15 May (due to bad weather this week).
