RMYS had a beautiful day for its 140th Opening Day on Saturday 3 October, kicking off with an excellent brunch in the Harbour Room.
Sabina Rosser was awarded the Club Member of the Year, after many years of tireless work on Sailing and Events Committees and for the Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta as well as competing in sailing at a high level. Sabina has sailed in all 25 AWKRs, and plans to take it on again next year. She has also organised many golfing events for RMYS members. Sabina continues to inspire all our members, particularly our female skippers and crews.
Cr Serge Thomann from the City of Port Phillip then did the honours of unfurling the burgee, while Father Turi Hollis led us in saying Grace.
Our visitors and our sailors then made their way out to the boats and into the bay, where the traditional Sail Past was conducted after the Blessing of the Fleet by Father Turi. The breeze picked up to about 25 knots towards the end of the Sail Past, making it interesting for some of the later boats!
Our thanks go to Peter Chapman for his excellent work hanging the bunting around the club, and to Dee Mason for all the great photos which can be viewed in the gallery here.
Thank you to all those who joined us for Opening Day and we look forward to another excellent season of racing.
