Racing Report - 6 & 9 January

13/1/2016

Picture
Wednesday 6 January

The Club Captain’s Invitational was held on Wednesday in a 25-30 knot southerly.
In first place was Oleana, Howard Lokon, with Vagrant, David Connolly, second and Salamander III, Monica Jones, third.

Best Start was won by Salamander III on 6 seconds.
The Banks Group Elapsed Time Award for the 9th fastest elapsed time was awarded to Oleana.

The Mountain Goat of the Day was awarded to Steve from Espresso, for misreading the course online!

Saturday 9 January

The Doc Bennell Trophy long race was held on Saturday in a light and fading breeze.
On PHS, Primitive Cool was the winner, followed by Sea Eagle in second and Jungle Juice in third. Primitive Cool also took out the IRC division.
In the AMS division, Take Five won, with Mrs Overnewton in second and Salamander III in third.

In social news, a large group of SYC members brought their boats for a visit to RMYS on Saturday. They very much enjoyed the marina facilities and the beautiful weather for a dockside lunch! Thanks to members for making them feel welcome.

J24 Australian Championship

SYC hosted the J24s on 4-8 January for a hotly contested Australian Championship. RMYS member Hugo Ottaway and his crew finished an excellent 3rd on PHS and 5th overall, with SYC's Pacemaker an unsurprising but always deserving victor. A link to the full results is here.

S80 Victorian Championship

A number of members competed at the S80 Victorian Championship at RGYC over the weekend. Congratulations to Mood Indigo on finishing 5th on PHS and 9th overall, Espresso finishing 15th on PHS and 16th overall, and Rock n Roll finishing 17th both on PHS and overall. A link to the full results is here.

Optimist Australian Championship

Further to last week's report, the huge Opti Nationals have been run and won at Georges River Sailing Club in NSW, with three RMYS members competing in the Open Division. In the Gold Fleet, Linus Talacko finished 41st, while in the Silver Fleet, Matthew Walker finished 56th and Hugo Macmillan finished 61st. A link to the full results is here.

Upcoming RMYS Events

This Wednesday is the first race of the Troubleshooters LA Nangle Twilight Pursuits, The Horizon Sails Spinnaker Series II, and the Kiss Printing Terry Hill AMS Series. Please check that you are entered in these series if you would like to compete.

The Big Bay Challenge is coming up on 4-5 March, so start getting your boats ready to race. Further information will be available shortly.

The Association Cup is on 10 April 2016 at RYCV - and the Sailing Committee will be confirming the selections shortly. Geelong's Festival of Sails over the Australia Day long weekend, and the International Cup at RMYS on 30 January, will be the final results considered for selection. As a reminder, the selection policy is published on the Association Cup page.
