Wednesday 24 August
It was a beautiful day for Race 2 of the Morse Air Systems Midweek Mariners and Doctors of Northcote Spinnaker Series III, with 8-12 knots of southwest to southerly breeze. Twenty-one competitors took advantage of the lovely weather on the 6.5nm Green course.
Mr Mountain Goat, Cam Hines took out the pursuit race aboard Foxtrot, with Arcadia finishing a very close second and Laafin placing third.
The Half Tonne Challenge was won by Hotshot, and the boat with the best start was Arcadia on one second.
Thank you to RO Ian Guyett, Selwyn Stokes and Brandon Phillips for running the race.
Saturday 27 August
After an unprecedented five race days in a row were cancelled for the JH McDonald Series due to poor wind, the decision was made to run two pursuit races on Saturday with an earlier start time. Happily the wind was kind this time, if a little variable in strength (from 8-23 knots).
The first race was taken out by Blue Horizons, with Dalliance finishing second and Astarte third.
Astarte improved their work in the second race by winning it, followed by Blue Horizons and Revenge. The team on Astarte also had the best start for both races on 1 second... major brownie points for the bowman!
The series results were:
1st: Red Dog - 30 points
2nd: Tigris - 35 points
3rd: Ellipse - 43 points
Congratulations to all.
Big thanks to RO Dave Croke, Terry Parker, Terry Hart and Paul Dunstan for taking on the double shift in the Tower.
We are now looking forward to the Winter Mixed Series, which is the final four-race series before the summer season starts. This Saturday's race will be a pursuit, starting from the tower. Please check that you are entered on the RMYS website here, and contact Liz if you're not on the list.
Sunday 28 August
Race 6 was the final short course race in the ORCV Winter Series and was contested by three RMYS yachts: Primitive Cool, Arcadia and Christine. Primitive Cool was the winner in Division 1 on both PHS and IRC. Christine was third in Division 1 on PHS and AMS and fourth on IRC. Arcadia placed fourth on both PHS and AMS in Division 2.
Arcadia is currently winning on Division 2 PHS, as well as fifth overall on AMS - a fantastic effort, especially given the very short time since PJ and his team began to race her.
Christine is currently fourth on PHS and IRC and fifth on AMS in Division 1 overall, which is also a great result.
As the final event in the winter series, ORCV will be conducting a passage race from Melbourne to Geelong on Saturday 10 September, with the Women's Skippers and Navigators race on the return leg. The Notices of Race for both of these events are available from the ORCV website.
