Peregrine is a small community school located in beautiful bush surroundings at Nicholls Rivulet, about 40km south of Hobart. The school's aim is to nurture children to learn and grow in a natural, responsive and engaging environment.
As a fundraiser for the school, parents design and create a range of bags made from recycled sails. In the workshop they create gear bags, carry bags, bucket bags and other accessories from old, torn or unused sails that are donated to the school for this purpose.
The bags are such a success at Salamanca Market every Saturday that they are going through a large amount of sail and are always on the look out for more unwanted sail to use for raw material.
To this end Peregrine parents are “hitting the road” in mid-February and are hoping to fill a two tonne truck with sail as they journey from Sydney to Melbourne on their way back to the ferry!
If you have sails of any description (they use Dacron, spinnaker, Kevlar and carbon fibre) large or small, boat or windsurfer, which are damaged beyond repair or superfluous to your needs, Peregrine would love to hear from you.
