Royal Melbourne Sail Training Academy, based at RMYS, is offering a range of new marine courses for May 2016.
Marine Radio: We have one marine radio course still open. We offer the internationally approved VHF (Short Range) or VHF + HF (Long Range) courses with a focus on the practical exercises using our ICOM marine radio equipment.

Powerboat Handling: Thursday 19 and 26 May 6pm to 10pm (theory, navigation and shore based exercises) and Sunday 29 May 9am to 6pm (practical on-water session).
Learn how to handle your boat correctly from Yachting Australia approved powerboat instructors – plus if you pass you’ll be able to apply for your Victorian boat licence without further testing. This comprehensive 20-hour boating course covers local and national boating rules, buoyage, navigation principles using charts, safety equipment, emergency procedures, as well one day on-water handling in a variety of modern powerboats under expert tuition. The on-water session covers mooring, docking, anchoring, low and high speed handling, as well as launch & recovery and man overboard drills. Successful completion of a short test during this course will also provide you with a TSV Boating Course Certificate to take to VicRoads to apply for your marine licence without further testing (Government fees and criteria apply). This nationally recognised course is highly recommended for all boating users from 12 years upwards to improve safety and confidence in all types of boating. Spinnaker Handling – Sundays, 22 May, 29 May & 5 June - 8.30am-12.30pm
This course includes all aspects of handling and trimming (adjustment) of symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers and uses our J24 and J80 training keelboats. The Spinnaker Handling course is aimed at yacht crew members, a new foredeck person seeking further training or a skipper seeking greater understanding of sailing with modern spinnakers. Start Crewing Keelboat – Next courses commence on Saturday 14 May and Saturday 21 May
An introduction to the basics of sailing on a day sailing yacht, including boat handling, safety and sailing theory. This course is aimed at the first time sailor, dinghy sailor (converting to keelboats) or prospective holiday yacht charterer. Click here for booking forms and more information.
