On last Friday night - 19th September Matt Lawrence and Matt Setton entertained a packed room of about 80 people with their tales of their two-handed Melbourne to Vanuatu yacht race aboard Jazz Player.
The Matts talked the crowd through their voyage day-by-day including insights into their preparation, navigation, highlights (coming first on AMS and PHS) and lowlights (Matt Lawrence’s tonsillitis and an overdose of lamb shanks). There was video footage and photos, as well as funny anecdotes, including “The Great Salami Toss”.
Their arrival in Vanuatu was a little anticlimactic as the boys couldn’t raise the Vanuatu Yacht Club on VHF and had to put in a call to Jack Setton to notify of their arrival. Customs was also closed, which meant a night moored in the harbour waiting for the office to open.
Vanuatu looked stunning and there was some funny footage of island excursions with the other crews.
The talk was accompanied by a fantastic Italian menu (as it was Italian Night).
Don’t forget that the RMYS teams who recently competed at the Dennis Conner International Yacht Club Challenge in New York will be speaking this Friday at 7pm.
