Regarding the changes and schedule for the Agar Wynne (Geelong to Melbourne) race. I can assure you the decision to change the date was not made lightly and was an issue of considerable discussion at more than one Sailing Committee meeting.
In keeping with the spirit of the Deed of Gift (re being a race from Geelong to Melbourne) and also in endeavoring to not require crews to return to Geelong on the Thursday, this was the best available compromise. Skippers and crews were also "straw polled" at Safety Beach during the Ruth Nangle and this was generally accepted as a reasonable attempt to meet the desires of the majority.
With the changes to the timing of the Geelong "Week" this was always going to be a problem, and this may again be an issue next year (again, the Geelong week is not over the "Australia Day Weekend").
