Gavin is an accomplished racing sailor with 19 podium finishes at National championships to his credit, and 7 world or international championships completed (including 2 top-ten finishes). He has coached for more than 20 years across the spectrum of racing sailors from junior club sailing through to World Championships. Gavin has provided coaching to the Royal Brighton Etchells fleet since 2009, and last year coached the RBYC IRC and AMS Association Cup teams.
He has won Yachting Victoria awards for "Contribution to Yachting" and "Coaching Program of the Year." He is a published sailing writer on the technical aspects of yacht racing with more than 10 years of regular contributions to US-based magazine "Sailing World." Gavin has also completed more than 10,000 ocean miles, including Melbourne to Hobart, Melbourne to Port Fairy, and Melbourne to Stanley races as helmsman. Gavin is a registered psychologist and works as an executive coach. He completed his PhD studying athlete career development and completed the coursework for a Masters in Sport Psychology.
