Thursday, Friday and Saturday saw the School Teams Racing State Championships take place inside the RMYS harbour.
The competing schools were: Brighton Grammar, St Leonard's College, St Michael's Grammar School, Peninsula Grammar, Mentone Grammar, Haileybury College, Toorak College, Albert Park College, Scotch College, Xavier College, St Bedes College, Geelong Grammar, Firbank Grammar School, McKinnon Secondary College, Dromana College and Star of the Sea College.
Division 2 and 3 completed 96 races during their round robin on Thursday, followed by Div 1 smashing out 66 races between 9.15am and 1pm on Friday. On Saturday the weather was not on our side. 80 races were scheduled, but the dubious weather conditions, including lightning, kept the fleet ashore for a number of hours, reducing the schedule to 40 races.
A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who helped make the event successful, including the following from RMYS: Alex Simopoulos, Sabina Rosser, Ian Lodewyckx, Roger Hatten, Michael Morse, Terry Hart, Andrew Gluth, Julie Cutler, Alistair Hart, Emma Wagner, Tom Ely and Paul Dunstan.
Congratulations to all the students who took part.
