Please read the following request from Paul Webber, who will be coming to Melbourne from New Zealand later in the year:
I’m coming to Williamstown in late November to compete in the 2015 Para Sailing World Championships. I’m sailing in an awesome two-person class, called a SKUD 18, where both crew and helm are disabled. I say that it’s an awesome class because it’s a fast boat, lovely to sail, and the set-up for disabled sailors means that I can compete properly against all sorts of different disabled athletes (and indeed able-bodied sailors).
As you can imagine, having two disabled people strapped into a performance skiff carries some risks. We always operate with a support boat so that someone can jump on board in case of a jammed halyard or sheet, capsize or other safety issue. I’m trying to hire a rigid inflatable boat to work as a coach/support boat for our team during the Worlds - but I’ve had no luck with the organisers, local yacht clubs or the class association. If you have any contacts with a small RIB that would be willing to charter it to us from 22 November to 3 December, then please let me know or put me in touch with them.
Thanks very much for your help.
