Eight yachts comprising a total of 35 crew departed Friday evening of the Labour day long weekend to arrive at either Portsea or Queenscliff cruising yacht club for an 8:30 am Saturday departure through Port Phillip Heads.
For some it was a first time outside the heads in their newly acquired yachts "Gracie", a Jenneau 36, completed the weekend two handed, including the Sunday afternoon race. Vagabond enjoyed drinks on the sand and the Paella Kings cooked up a feast on Saturday night.
Conditions homeward bound were a little more challenging for some with a 5 am departure from Flinders in a 15-20 knot Southerly. The early departure this year being necessary to enable a safer entry to Port Phillip heads.
A big thank you to Flinders Yacht Club for hosting RMYS for yet another successful Flinders Cruise.
