Safety is one of the most important aspects of sailing because no matter how often we are on the water it is still a high-risk sport.
Anyone that has had to recover someone from the water will tell you that it is much harder than it looks. At RMYS, we have 'Manny' the mannequin, which can be borrowed at any time of the year so that you and your crew can practise. Manny only weighs 35kgs dry, but is over 70kgs wet and is a true dead weight. We encourage you to take him out and, with your crew, perfect a technique that works for you.
The RMYS White Book (Sailing Instructions) and ISAF Blue Book (Racing Rules of Sailing) provide guides as to how best to recover someone from the water. Please contact the office, or any of the Sailing Committee for more information.
See you on the water (hopefully not in it!) and at the MOB briefing.
