Held at the Albury Wodonga Yacht Club on the Melbourne Cup Weekend of 29 and 30 October, this regatta incorporates the Victorian Dinghy Championships. It offers more than just sailing! There is unpowered camping available at the Club with full catering (if you choose). Saturday evening there will be live music and wine tasting from a local winery.
Some class associations are offering coaching opportunities on the Monday and Tuesday (check with your association). For those staying on for a long weekend and not sailing there is a Winery Bus Tour available on the Monday.

In the Doctors of Northcote Spinnakers Series III, Race 3 on PHS was won by Rock N Roll (Steve Barker), with Matador in second and Red Dog in third. On AMS, Matador was first, followed by Red Dog and then Vagrant. On IRC there were only three starters, and the winner was Matador.
The Best Start wine was won by Cloud Ten on 2 seconds.
Big thanks to our race management team of two, Ian Guyett and Selwyn Stokes.
Saturday 3 September
A starting practice session was run on Saturday morning for skippers and crew who are new to racing. Jason McCutcheon led a theory session first up, with practice starts from the tower afterwards. Thank you to all those experienced sailors who lent a hand; the feedback on the session has been very positive and we are sure that you have helped to build some confidence.
The first race of the Winter Mixed Series was started that afternoon in a light breeze, which unfortunately died further as the day went on. RO Andrew Gluth was forced to abandon the pursuit racing due to the glassy conditions, as no boat would have made it to the finish line before the time limit. Next week will be a spinnaker race, and here's hoping there will be more wind (but not too much!).
Thanks to Andrew, Club Captain Alistair Hart, Andrew Fambiatos and Terry Parker for manning the tower.
Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks
Thank you to Tim Wilson for this great report and the excellent feature photo:
Squadron members Rob Date, Mark Grinter, Barry Semple, Peter Smith and Tim Wilson (Xit Strategy crew) have just returned from competing at Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks on Rob's Adams 10, Scarlet Runner 9. They enjoyed the invaluable support of Monica Jones for one of the Airlie races and finished the regatta mid-fleet. Hamilton Island provided some tough competition and conditions but the RMYS crew sailed consistently to finish a close second to Ray Roberts' Team Hollywood in the tough Rating Passage division. Janet Dean's regular dockside support was also inspiring to the crew. With podium finishes in all but one race, watch out now for the Xit Strategy crew's slick new teamwork.
Congratulations on some great results, Xit Strategy team!
In other RMYS news, Vice Commodore Charles Meredith took his catamaran Peccadillo up north, with an 11th place at Airlie Beach and a 14th at Hamilton Island in the Multihull division. RMYS member Katy Jones was on board Tevake II from HBYC - our congratulations on their division win at Airlie Beach. Paul Lindeman's Biddy Hu II, which is based at RYCV, also featured RMYS members and finished 11th and 8th in the two regattas in Cruising Division 3.
Some RMYS members are now competing at Magnetic Island Race Week - look out for a report next week.

The JW Crosbie Trophy was presented to RMYS by Commodore John Crosbie, Commodore of RMYS from 1970 to 1972 and Honorary Life Member.
Please complete the nomination form and return it to the office by no later than Monday 5 September. The proposer and seconder must be RMYS members. All nominations will be reviewed by the General Committee. General Committee members do not qualify for the award.
We look forward to receiving your nominations.
This is an extremely exciting and satisfying project and I encourage members – female and male – to consider being involved and think about what you can contribute. The AWKR Committee sits within the Sailing Committee, which then reports to General Committee.
Please let me know if you would like to join the AWKR Committee and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
