Build your skills with a Keelboat HELM training course at RMYS
Want to get more experience steering a keelboat, but can't get an opportunity to learn? The Keelboat HELM sail training course at RMYS may be just what you need, with the next course on Sunday 12th August.
Love crewing, but just itching to take over the helm and show them what you've got? A Keelboat HELM course at RMYS may be for you!
The next course starts on Sunday, 12th August, 1300 to 1700 hours (four places available).
The Keelboat HELM course takes a more experienced crew member and gives them skills in steering (helming) a keelboat. Skills taught include holding a course on all points of sailing, tacking, gybing, conducting a man overboard recovery, anchoring and much more. This is a hands-on, practical boating course, with the majority of training conducted on the water.
The RMYS Training Academy's fleet of tiller-steered keelboats up to eight metres are ideal training boats to give you hands-on sailing experience without being too big or difficult to control.
You'll get personlised instruction, with maximum of four students under the guidance of your Yachting Australia-accredited instructor. This 12-hour training course is normally conducted over three four-hour sessions and is nationally recognised.
Students also undertake mainsheet trimming, jib trimming and other onboard skills (as part of your training crew), which will help you to become a better and more confident sailor. We even teach you how to tie knots!
If you're not up to this level, perhaps a Keelboat CREW course is for you. Or for the prospective foredeckie, maybe a Keelboat SPINNAKER course.
Keelboat training courses are run most weekends. The next course starts on Sunday, 12th August, 1300 to 1700 hours (four places available). More courses are planned for September through to Christmas.
