The Wine and Cheese Tasting a great success
Members and friends delighted their taste buds last Friday night, indulging in copious amount of French artisan cheeses from Calendar cheese, accompanied by complimenting white wine.
The members’ bar took on the luxurious smell of a cheese shop as Jeremy Spradbery distributed platters of five different cheeses to each table. As we worked our way through these rich and delicious cheeses, and white wines specially selected to compliment them, Jeremy informed us about the production of each cheese and what to look for in tasting. He did so with the passion only possible from one who has not just tasted, but also visited each location and met the artisans.
We learned about the use of salt in cheese making and about the reasons for storage of Roquefort in French caves. We also tasted the effect of the different wines on the flavour of the cheese. The cheesemakers were ‘blessed’ several times throughout the evening, which was more like a smorgasbord of cheeses than a mere ‘tasting’.
Everyone vowed they’d be back for the next event which will highlight red wines and cheeses which compliment them. Look out for it and book early so you don’t miss out!
The event was generously supported by Calendar Cheese.
